I love the new technology of getting in touch with old friends. Recently got in touch with someone on MyLife whom was a dear friend, and superb lover, after 20 years. To be able to reconnect with him was such a bright spot in my day.
He was in my A&P class. WOW! The image of him sautering into the classroom that first day is etched within my memory. Who hasn't had that kind of encounter, male or female, who didn't feel the sexuality of someone who just walks past.
I never told him that it was lust at first sight, but oh, I knew if he were single it would happen as sure as I knew my name.
We became study partners. He was recently separated from someone he'd had a common-law relationship with for a long time, her decision for them to break up. That led the way to our sexual relationship that was hot, steamy and exciting.
After twenty years he just told me that she is still extremely jealous of me. They reconnected just before we graduated from college in 1990. He married her and they have been together for most of the past 20 years and I remarried in 2001.
I feel that kind of jealousy is a sign of insecurity. Or maybe her idea of love is trying to have ownership of someone. I don't know what makes a woman, or a man, feel so threatened just to have someone write to reconnect with a friend.
But I refuse to forget my friend because she is jealous. We haven't had contact with each other for 20 years, live miles and miles apart. I am just happy to have this friendship that has laid dormant all of these years and is still as heartfelt today as it was then.
