Like little faces bowed in prayer, the violets are in full bloom across my yard. They look so solemn, so frail and remind me of a card I once received that contained the "Legend of the Violet." The legend is that when Jesus walked through the gardens that they were so close to the ground and didn't think he would notice them. They were humbled when he did and bowed at his presence.
For me they are a welcoming sign of spring. I try every year to gather up the stray plants and transplant them in the areas I want violets to grow in mass. This year it appears that there will be plenty to transplant.
Hopefully I can get them to smother out the dewberry plants that continue to sprout up in my yard despite all my efforts of digging them up. After a wet winter there are a lot of these prickly plants popping up everywhere so hopefully some warm, dry weather is ahead and time to get out and get busy eradicating them from my lawn.
Got a couple new clematis plants and will get them into the ground Friday and some lovely strawberry plants to put into a shallow planter.
Gardening and yardwork has always been one of my favorite activities, but now is becoming a challenge. My fibromyalgia has become increasingly painful and once I get onto the ground I find myself looking for the nearest tree to pull myself up.
So with this in mind, I think there is an elevated planter in my near future, lol. Maybe I will put together a small one this year and try my hand at a small veggie patch for fresh salads.
While I plan my garden, grasp the joys of life and run with them.....
